Yucef
As portrayed by Herbert Lom in El Cid
Arabic Name: Yusuf ibn-Tashfin.

(1061-1106) Fundamentalist leader of the Almoravides, who would conquer the fragmented Moorish kingdoms of Africa and Spain and set back the Christian reconquest by a hundred years.

Also called in the chronicle Miramamolin (literally, "Prince of the Believers"). Yucef declared Jihad on the Christians of Spain and began a series of invasions of the peninsula in 1086. In history Yucef did not come personally to retake Valencia, but sent his nephew Mohammed ibn Ayisa, who was defeated by the Cid there in 1095.
