HomeDaniel Wade 1775 - 1850Tree

Sex: Male.
Birth: ABT 1775 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania
Death: BEF 1850 in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania

Parents: Husband: Christian Wade 1740 - 1800.

Daniel Wade appears as the brother and executor of the 1816 will of John Wade:

Wade John (died) June 2nd 1816 (probated) June 19th 1816. Executor Daniel Wade. Strasburg Township. Widow Mary Wade. Children - John (there were others, their names and number not given). Brother - Daniel Wade.

Daniel does not appear in the censuses of 1790 or 1800, and none of the Wade households in those two censuses show young men. He was probably living in the household of his wife's family.

Daniel does appear as a head of household in Lancaster County in the censuses of 1810 to 1840, but has evidently passed away by the census of 1850. He was listed under Manor Township in 1800, Lancaster Borough 1810 to 1830, and Manor Township in 1840.

Analyzing the age ranges given in each census, it can be deduced that his household consists of: Daniel, born 1775, died before 1850; his wife, born 1785; a daughter, born 1800; an older woman, perhaps his wife's mother, born 1765, and dying between 1820 and 1830; and perhaps a son, who appears in only the 1830 census, born soon after 1820, and departed home or died by 1840. Given the close proximity with which Daniel lived by members of the Herr family, even when moving, it may be surmised that his wife was a Herr.

John and Daniel Wade could have been the sons of either a John Wade, who is documented in central Lancaster County from 1765 to 1780; or of Benjamin or Christian Wade, both mentioned in the 1790 census, but both without any male children at home and not mentioned anywhere else. Their birth dates are a little late to be the sons of John Wade and Anna Musser; and Benjamin Wade died before Christian, and may have been older. Therefore until better information becomes available it is assumed they are the sons of Christian Wade.

Details from each census are as follows:

1800: Name transcribed as Daniel Wead. One male 16-25 (Daniel); 1 female 26-44, 1 female under 10, one female 16-25. Adjacent family names are:

1810: One male 25-45 (Daniel); 1 female 10-16, 1 female 16-25, and one female over 45. Adjacent family names are no fewer than three Herrs (one father-and-son, one son of Emmanuel Herr), Jacob Crouse, John Eshbaugh, Frederick Fedl, John Wausler, Isaac Heiney, Henry Kaufman (father and son), Wade, Frederick Hersh, Jacob Perch, John Shenk, Metzger, Stockslager, Michael Kreider. The census covered Manheim, Lancaster, Lampeter, Conestoga, Drumore, Little Britain, Manor, Leacoc, Martic, and Hempfield townships. The constellation of adjacent surnames indicates that Daniel Wade was most likely residing in or near Conestoga Township (especially Heiney, which in 1850 occurs only in Mount Joy and Conestoga Townships).

1820: One male over 45 (Daniel); 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26-45, 1 female over 45. Adjacent family names are Henry Kaufman, George Hauser, Christian Herr, Kaufman, Hauser, Herr, Phhilip Dickel, Isaac Heiney, Henry Eiseberger, Jacob Lemon, Christian Frantz, Frederick Fehl, John and two x Christian Eschbach (father and son), Joseph Strawbridge, David Herr, Michael Nuting, Christian Herr, Abraham Boyer, Jacob Peters, Frederick Ferster, Adam McConnel, John Schenck (father and son), Jacob Metzger.

1830: One male of 10-15; 1 male of 30-40; one female of 20 to 30; one female of 40 to 50. Other names adjacent are Henry Simon, Richard Shenk, Jacob Lemon, Fred K Metzger, John Kaufman, Jacob Brubaker, Henry Kauffman, Christian and David Herr. It can be seen that the ages of the family given here are off by ten years from earlier and later censuses.

1840: One male of 60 to 70; one female of 30 to 40; and one female of 60 to 70. The adjacent names in the census are mainly different than the 1810-1830, and this census is said to be from Manor Township. However Christian Hare (Herr) is living next year, as are Christian Hershey, and a Benjamin Eshliman. It is possible the elder Daniel and his family retired to a different location.
