HomeJohn Wade 1730 - 1785Tree

Sex: Male.
Birth: ABT 1730
Death: ABT 1785 in Conestoga or Lampeter Township, Lancaster, PA

Family: Wife: Anna Musser 1732 - .

Parents: Husband: Timothy Wade 1700 - 1760. Wife: Bright Waters 1700 - 1760.

Anna Musser, wife of a John Wade, is mentioned in ca 1740 will as receiving part of 200 acrees in Strasberg (later Lampeter) township.

The deed in Book WW, page 126, of Lancaster Co, discovered by Edgar Musser, shows that a Jacob Landis died intestate leaving 200 acres near Conestoga or Strasberg, which he acquired from Tobias Collet and others in 1722 to his heirs and issue: Benjamin Landis; Barbara, wife of Teodorus Buckwalter; and Anna Tinkey, deceased, late wife of Christian Musser, of Lancaster Co, yeoman, deceased.

Christian Musser also died intestate, so his share, which had been purchased by Benjamin Landis, was distributed to his heirs and issue, Peter Musser (who had a wife, Fronica); Hans Musser (who had a wife, Christina); Magdalena (wife of Martin Hoover); Anna (wife of John Wade); and Barbara Musser. Although the deed mentioned, which was dated 1795, does not tell when Christian died, that may have happened ca 1741 as that year is when Anna Muser, widow of Christian, signed a bond for faithful performance of her responsibilities in the administration of his estate. John Musser and Durst (Theodorus?) Buckwalter also signed this bond.

A payment to a John Waid occurs in the accounts of the Overseers of the Poor for Lancaster, 1765 March 26, 2pp. Box 7, in Leacock Township, for expenses incurred while providing for Thomas Moore.

The 1771 Property Tax List indicates a John Wade living in Lancaster Borough, Lancaster County, but landless. The entry reads: WADE, John - lab'r, no Acres, no Horses, no Cattle, no Servants; Tax - 2.0 pounds.

A John Wade is mentioned in the Taxables for Conestoga in 1780: John Wade, 2 horses, 2 cows, total value £250. With the Conestoga association this is a very good candidate for an ancestor of Noah.

A John Wade appears in the 1790 census, but he is in the Mount Joy Township, and therefore most likely linked to the Catholic Wade lineage there. It is therefore likely that these records all refer to a John Wade active around Conestoga from 1765-1780, who had passed away before 1780. There are two Wades in central Lancaster County in the 1790 census who could be brothers of John:

Benjamin Wade - mentioned only in the 1790 census, in Lancaster borough. This household consists of no males and three females, so he is evidently deceased. No entry under this name appears in subsequent censuses. He may have been a brother of John.

Christian Wade, mentioned in the 1790 census in Lampeter township. 1 male over 16 and 3 females in the family. His age is unknown but he does not appear in subsequent censuses.

The John Wade, and his brother Daniel, who are mentioned in an 1816 will, were born in 1768-1775 and therefore seem a bit too young to be sons of Anna Musser. Tenatively they are assumed to be sons of Christian Wade, a brother of John.

A John Weaid is listed in the 1790 census in Bart Township, 1 male and 1 female over age of 16. He appears again in the 1800 and 1810 censuses as John Waid. However the consistently different spelling of the name indicates that was more likely a German Weide, unrelated to the others.
