Major city of Moorish Andalucia.
An ancient city going back to Phoenician roots, the Roman Hispalis. In the Cid’s time it was ruled by All-Mutamid, Muhammad ibn Abbad (1069-1091), who aggressively conquered adjacent Moorish kingdoms. His rule was finally ended by the Almoravides fundamentalists, who conquered Seville in 1091. Latitude: 37.38479. Longitude: -5.97592.
And the King of Granada and the Ricos-omes who were with him cared nothing for his letters, but entered boldly into the land of Seville, and advanced as far as Cabra, burning and laying waste before them.
And the Cid held these good men prisoners three days and then set them free, and he returned with great honour and great riches to Seville.
