Count Don Ramon Berenguer

Home
Modern Name: Berenguer Ramon II the Fratricide.

Count of Barcelona, taken prisoner by the Cid on two occasions, in 1082 and 1090.

Called in history Berenguer Ramon II, he was purported to have killed his twin brother, Ramon Berenguer II, in December 1082, in order to obtain absolute control of Catalonia. The son of the dead brother would eventually overthrow his uncle and become sole ruler in 1097, forcing Berenguer Ramon II into exile. This nephew married one of the Cid's daughters, Sol (Maria).
