Valencia Region
Modern Name: Puig. Arabic Name: al-Jubail?.

This strategic location, on the coast road leading to Sagunto, 15 km north of Valencia, was the site of the decisive Battle of Puig in 1237. King James victory there led to the final reconquest of Valencia.

A church dedicated to Santa Maria was built there in 1238. It was expanded in the 14th Century to the enormous Royal Monastery of El Puig de Santa Maria in the 14th Century. No traces of the town or fortifications of the Cid's time remain.

Latitude: 39.58; Longitude: -.3.
