Town, 165 km from Madrid, built on an impregnable plateau above the Rio Jucar. Famous for its 14th Century casas colgadas, hanging houses, medieval skyscrapers built above the cliffs..
Despite its antique apperance, the buildings in the town date back mainly to the 14th Century. The town of the Cid's time was probably much less striking. The lush and rugged valleys around the town are typical of the landscape of the province. The Ciudad Encantada, a landscape of bizarre rock formations, lies nearby and was a location for the film Conan the Barbarian. Latitude: 40.08. Longitude: -2.14.
And an Arrayaz of Cuenca, whose name was Abencano, who was a native of Valencia, went to Zaragoza, and told the King that if he would go thither he would deliver the city into his hands, for it appertained unto him rather than to Abenalfange.
